Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic Particle Inspection is primarily used to detect surface and in some applications, subsurface discontinuities in ferro magnetic materials.

The process puts a magnetic field into the part through direct or indirect magnetization. Direct magnetization occurs when the electric current is passed through the test object and a magnetic field is formed in the material itself. Indirect magnetization (typically used for industrial applications) occurs when a magnetic field is applied to the material from an outside source (Magnetic Yoke). The presence of a surface or subsurface discontinuity in the material allows the magnetic flux to leak. Ferrous iron particles are then applied and will be attracted to the magnetic flux leak.

Metalogic provides Portable AC or DC yokes incorporating dry powder, white color contrast and wet fluorescence  techniques dependant on the application and environment.
