Are there any limitations regarding thickness of the pressure vessels which can be examined by phased array (Code case 2235)? Is there a different approach for thin (up to 1"w.t.) and thick (1.5"-4"w.t.) pressure vessels?

2235-9

You should read the entire question before replying, sarkmych.

To answer the original question...YES, there are limitations regarding the wall thickness of vessels that can be tested by PAUT in lieu of RT. The parameters are 1/2" to 8" thickness. Its listed in 2235-9 somewhere on page....1. As a UT hand, I would agree with you that thinner materials can be tested using PA. However, that was not the question. A website that boasts a column titled "ask the experts" should provide answers with a little more...experteez.

BTW...HAZ coverage.

You can test wall thicknesses >8" provided that you can cover the weld volume plus 2" on each side of the weld to cover the HAZ. Again, somewhere on page...1. Thats one helluva Vpath, don't you think? I apologize for giving you a hard time sarkmych but it bothers me that you would say; "No, there are no limitations for different thicknesses." Not true.
